Necromunda goes Digital!

Another week, another Games Workshop Licensed title is announced. Today, the pantheon is joined by Necromunda: Underhive Wars.

This time, prepare to descend into the grim darkness of the Underhive for tactical turn based combat between gang members.

Necromunda was one of Games Workshop’s flagship Specialist Games, featuring a truly staggering variety of rules that encompassed Every possible aspect of gritty close range gang fights in the 41st millennium.
The core conceit of the tabletop game is that players would take part in ongoing campaigns where they would build and manage a gang of ne’r do wells and watch as they grew from errant youths to fully fledged gang members. Usually missing some limbs along the way.

The game was always praised for the level of detail it had in every aspect. Multi level combat, detailed injury tables that accumulated damage as fights went on. Even the campaign system was built with options based around the gang mechanics, including rescuing captured members and the like.
The video game will be coming to PC from developer Rogue Factor, who previously handled another License from Games Workshop, Mordheim: City of the Damned. In many ways, Mordheim and Necromunda were sister games, sharing many systems and designed. As a result, it seems a clear choice to hand the license over to Rogue Factor.

Their general manager had the following to say upon the announcement:

“Rogue Factor’s collaboration with Focus and Games Workshop is a story of trust, hard work, and true passion for the Warhammer Universe. Our adventure began by building the foundations of Mordheim: City of the Damned Early Access. Regarded as a highly successful and well-executed endeavour, the Early Access of Mordheim: City of the Damned gathered a vast number of passionate gamers that helped foster an amazing community and improved many aspects of the game. After a strong launch on PC and consoles, and an incredible experience with many lessons learned, the way was paved for our next step in conquering the tactical RPG genre: Necromunda: Underhive Wars.”
Yves Bordeleau, General Manager at Rogue Factor.

Atmosphere and style seem to be something the studio handles well, but fans of the fantasy based game do seem to have some bugbears with the mechanics. Hopefully it’s something they’ll learn from as development starts in earnest on Necromunda: Underhive Wars gets into production.
