Eyes Front! What’s happening in pop culture this week?

Time to head into August, and see what kicks off the final month of the summer.

The traditional Summer Games Drought continues, with only Telltale publishing any games of note.  Only a few more weeks and then those dams will burst though, with Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and No Man’s Sky acting as forewarning of the Autumn flood.

Batman: The Telltale Series will be launching on August 2nd for XBOne, PS4 and PC, with the last gen releases coming later in the month. Telltale are under pressure here to show that they can handle yet another series, with choppy receptions to Walking Dead Season Two, followed by the lacklustre Game of Thrones.
How will they handle the Caped Crusader? You’ll have to play to find out.

That’s really it for games, with everything else either delayed, or just not out yet. But then again, with No Man’s Sky out on the 9th, I guess no one really wants to compete with a whole Galaxy.

Hardware wise, Microsoft are finally putting their new Xbox One Slim on sale. As Microsoft try to control the lead that Sony have built up on the console market, the Slim represents the final station before the unknown future of the Scorpio system. With a more powerful and, frankly better, console on the cards for next year, it’s possible Microsoft have confused their consumer base. The new  console’s smaller size and myriad minor improvements are all major boosts to the device, but it remains to be seen whether it will be enough for their audience to put down the cash.

Finally, back to DC for the major box office release for the week, Suicide Squad will be arriving in Cinemas on August 5th. With Batman V Superman underperforming and critically panned, this is DC’s chance to redeem some audience appreciation. I’ve generally rated DC’s rogue’s gallery pretty highly, so if they can get some entertaining villainy on screen, maybe they still have a hope for their Heroes too.

That or wait for Wonder Woman to deliver the Hail Mary Play.

Watch for yourselves and see how the DC Cinematic Universe either completely falls apart at the seams, or they manage to pull up out of the nose dive.

Well then, that’s it for the week starting August 1st. Hopefully next week has at least a touch more to talk about. That isn’t, you know, Batman related.
