The Last of Us Part II

Last of Us Part II: First Footage shown at PSX

Sony finally unveil the highly anticipated sequel to one of the greatest games of the last generation. After many leaks and hints by developers and voice actors, See the future for Joel and Ellie below!

Obviously we aren’t at the gameplay stage yet, so this is all just CGI. As such, assume that everything will be slightly changed by the time we get to a gameplay build.
Saying that though, this looks gorgeous. From the natural reclamation of the human towns by the forest, to the interplay of darkness and light, it’s obvious Naughty Dog are aiming to go above and beyond in style.

Ellie, All grown up and ready to kick your ass.

Ellie looks to be a few years older by the point the trailer is taking place, but looking no less capable of handling herself than the first game. Indeed, the implications of the trailer suggest she’s going to be taking the lead role this time around. This was later confirmed at the Naughty Dog panel. This might mean Joel will be the sidekick, which would be an obvious place to take the dynamic.

Overall though, this somehow feels even darker than the previous game. VengeanceĀ as a motivator feels very fitting for Ellie’s character, and could lead to a very Blue Oni/Red Oni situation with Joel.

Also, I have to give credit to the title. When The Last of Us ended, the game felt like there was a whole lot more story to tell. The decision to go with a very classy, Godfather-esque, Part II feels like a natural progression. This game’s predecessor was held up as one of the ways to show how mature gaming had become, and was widely lauded for it’s engaging story. Sticking with a classy approach as opposed to a gigantic 2 and a subtitle feels like the appropriate route to take.

I can’t wait to see what comes from this.
