Ready for an encore? Guardians of the Galaxy Vol: 2 Trailer drops

With Doctor Strange out of the way and the Sony/Marvel Spiderman movie apparently getting a trailer alongside Rogue One’s release, time for the Guardians of the Galaxy to show off what they’ve got.

And it is adorable.

Lots to break down here and see where things might be going.

Cosmic Connections between the Marvel Cinematic Universe might be getting played up more here. The majority of the trailer is showing a fight against a rather toothy looking beholder styled alien.

Beholder

Behind the monster though, some very familiar looking portals. Between Asgard’s bifrost and Doctor Strange’s portal magic, we’ve been seeing a lot more of those orange coloured special effects. Might just be an easter egg, or could be involved with the Guardians maybe doing some super long distance travelling to a setting more familiar to the rest of the MCU, Earth.

Portal Technology.

We also have the first footage of Mantis, the newest cast member to join the Guardians. Pom Klementieff seems to be going for a very demure, measured but alien approach to the role, She gets to show off her telepathic powers in a silly, but meaningful way. Now just need to see how she’ll actually end up joining the team!

And finally, we come to the most important part of the trailer.

Happy Groot

I’m getting lost in those eyes. Yep, Baby Groot is out of his plant pot. With a whole new voice set by Vin Diesel, the trunucated tree seems to be going heavily down the road of comic relief in this film. Plus, the dynamic with him and rocket having switched roles as protectors offers a whole host of opportunities for storytelling.

That’s not to say Baby Groot won’t get his actions scenes mind.

So what do we want to see next? Well Kurt Russell is playing Ego the Living Planet. So you know, that might be worth getting a picture of. Plus Sylvester Stallone is involved somehow (Come on Nova!) and there’s still no information about the overall plot. April 25th 2017 can’t come soon enough.
