Sony Nostalgia

Sony weaponises 90’s Nostalgia: Parappa, Wipeout and Crash Bandicoot are Back!

Sony’s Playstation Experience is going on this weekend so they’ve been knocking out trailers all day. They’ve weaponised your sony nostalgia for the 90’s.
Crash Bandicoot, Parappa The Rapper and Wipeout are back!

The remake of the Crash trilogy was announced at E3, but now we get our first footage. And it looks delightfully familiar, but prettied up. Actually, really prettied up. The old game never really looked terrible, even now, but this looks sumptuous. The choice to compare the old graphics directly goes a long way to selling the amount of work the team are putting in on this one. With all three games in one package, and a very tongue in cheek attitude, there’s a lot to enjoy here.

Parappa The Rapper was a cult classic rhythm game that had a truly endearing story. And apparently now you can share it with your kids. Or just enjoy it yourself. Man that costume is horrifying.
This one also showcases the Patapon and LocoRoco remasters, which i’m sure will have equal amounts of cult fans jumping for joy. The fact sony are going back to these smaller, less well known series is a really nice move from a company moving to a more franchise based model.

Finally, Sony have announced that Wipeout HD, Fury and 2048 are all being bundled, cleaned up and remastered for PS4. Once the flagship of Sony’s grown-up games sales, I’m sure they’ll have people playing long into the night once more. Astoundingly pretty backgrounds and fast paced action awaits you in 2017.

It’s 90’s Sony nostalgia is at it’s height! They are using their remasters to go through their back catalogue and pick out games that will definitely please long term fans. I know plenty of people who will definitely be excited that Crash is making a comeback especially. 2017 is going to feel very familiar.
