Super Mario Run on Android!  Get it Now!

One day earlier than expected, Super Mario Run has become available for Android users. Check it out!

Ahead of Schedule, Android users are going to get a chance to try their hand at the newest handheld Mario game, Super Mario Run.

Designed to be played with a single hand, the game is built with the average bus route in mind. It’s not quite a traditional game though. Instead Mario runs in a straight line to the end of the level, vaulting over enemies from the side. He’ll only die if the player hits an enemy from below, or if he runs off a cliff.

The game is incredibly approachable, with only taps and short held presses on the screen  required to play. In the traditional Nintendo style, it’s easy to reach the end of a level. Not so easy to master it.

The game starts with four levels available for free, with access to the kingdom building minigames included. After that, a one off purchase of £9.99 gets you access to the full game with 24 levels, as well as multiple characters and mini games.

The multi-player features include a time trial competitive mode where you try and beat opponents in points collected in regular levels. This is integrated neatly into Nintendo’s new account system, which allows for easy competition between friends.
Compared to the IPhone version, there are some differences with Super Mario Run. Due to the nature of the differing Android systems, the game cannot be optimised as well as the singular iOS version. On my HTC One M9, I encountered a little slowdown when the game was initially running, but this soon cleared up. The battery usage seems consistent enough, with a standard amount dropping for a full game.

This is a full Mario game. On my phone. For a tenner. And you don’t even need to pay that. If nothing else, the free portion of Super Mario Run is definitely worth checking out.
