Geek Errant Games of the Year: 2019

December 31, 2019 Conor 0

It has been a genuinely amazing year for games. The sheer variety of games on offer has been bountiful and means everyone has something they can enjoy. AAA offered some excellent big budget experiences. Indies of all sizes created unique and stellar games. There were in fact, far too many games. So much I couldn’t even get to things like Outer Wilds, Heaven’s Vault, Mechwarrior or Resident Evil 2. But the 10 best games of the year 2019? The ones I played are below:

Geek Errant Reviews: A Plague Tale Innocence

May 17, 2019 Conor 0

You’re never more than ten feet away from a rat. This is a well known aphorism about city life. God I wish the rats in A Plague Tale Innocence were ten feet away. Instead they’re clustering around, seemingly mere inches from my character. I can hear their chittering and squeaking as they wait for my meagre torch to go out. I could move out of the shadows to the safety of a brazier, but then I’d be seen by the guard. Instead I time my movement wrong, step too close to the and as the music swells, I am devoured by clambering rats in a verminous maelstrom of teeth and claws. A Plague Tale Innocence is wonderfully unpleasant and exhilaratingly tense.

Spider-Man Title Card

Spider-Man Review: A Spectacular Superhero Story

September 10, 2018 Conor 0

Spider-Man is the best superhero game that exists right now. It earns this title for so many reasons. Not just the superbly realised world of New York. Not just the simple yet challenging character action combat. Not even the intuitive webswinging that anchors the whole game. Spider-Man is the best superhero game because it understands the genre better than any so far. It is a game about being a hero, and doing good.

E3 EA Conference 2018: Underwhelming and Safe

June 9, 2018 Conor 0

The E3 EA Conference 2018 was very much muted this year. Not a whole lot of things we haven’t seen. The whole delivery here appeared to be based around making as little fuss or promise as possible, while still trying to show off the newest games

Microsoft are definitely in the underdog position for this generation. They’ve had multiple big titles being cancelled or delayed or just not well received enough. Weirdly, in spite of how they started this generation, their backwards compatibility and console features have turned into their saving grace. But what do we expect them to be focussing on for the E3 2018 Conference? What are our Microsoft E3 Predictions?

EA now has a huge uphill battle in the minds of the general audience and media following the Battlefront 2 Microtransaction Brouhaha. What do we expect for them to bring to the Table for E3 2018? What are our E3 EA Predictions?

Vampyr Title

Vampyr Review: A Valiant Attempt at Vampiric Verisimilitude

June 5, 2018 Conor 0

An atmospheric blend of brawling combat action game and conversation based adventure game, Vampyr is the latest title from Dontnod Entertainment and Focus Home Interactive. Not a perfect game, but one worth your time even if you’re not fascinated by the gothic.
