The Week Ahead in Pop Culture! Comedy, Combat and Cosmic Adventures!

So what can we expect from the week starting August 8th?

Time to find out.

Tuesday, 9th sees the release of

Brut@l:

Brut@l looks amazing. Using ASCII tilesets as a style, the game is revitalising a traditional dungeon crawling genre. With a level editor for making your own dungeons, and the potential for some local Co-op sessions this is a game I’ll be keeping an eye on.

Wednesday 10th August

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates.

Zac Efron, Anna Kendrick, Adam Devine, Aubrey Plaza.

Two brothers (Efron and Devine) attempt to find well to do wedding dates for a family occasion, and the zany escapades happen when their new partners (Kendrick and Plaza) turn out to not be what they seem.

The line up of names sounds fantastic, but the American release suggests this comedy may be middling at best.

No Man’s Sky:

I’m anticipating No Man’s Sky greatly, even if I suspect I have more realistic expectations than most of the internet. What I want is an incredibly pretty exploration game where I get to travel the stars. Find out if I get that on Wednesday with my review.

Thursday, 11th has

Nerve.

Emma Roberts and James Franco star in Nerve, a thriller where people play an online dare game, streamed live across the world. As the dares become increasingly dangerous, Roberts and Franco begin to realise just what they’ve let themselves in for.

I’m tempted to see this one, purely because of the modern day dangers plot. A streaming website that is super dangerous due to millions of anonymous commentators controlling people’s lives? This is straight up, ripped from the headlines nonsense.

And it’ll probably be deliciously bad.
