21 Games To Watch in 2021

11. Adiós (PC)

Step into someone else’s shoes for a day.

Someone else just happens to be a man who uses his pig farm to dispose of bodies for the mob.

And doesn’t want to do that anymore.

Unfortunately the mob don’t agree.

So you’ll spend the day in conversation with a friend of yours as you work around the farm. He’ll try and convince you to change your mind. You’ll just talk.

Possibly the tightest focussed game on this list, Adiós feels like it’s going to take some of the finest small scale theatrical dialogue traditions and really make use of the medium of games to explore them in a new way. Whatever happens it’s going to be fascinating.

12. New Pokémon Snap (Switch)

Long awaited, much anticipated. Bandai Namco are making the game that the switch was designed for. Take pictures of Pokemon! Throw things at Pokemon! Get a higher score with your pictures to get to new areas!

But genuinely, the gameplay of Pokemon Snap is one of those things that plays much better than it’s described. A whole world full of 3D Pokemon behaving “naturally” is one of those things that people really find fun, so hopefully New Pokemon Snap will be another example of a remake that works for everyone.

Releasing on Nintendo Switch on April 30th.

13. Anno: Mutationem (PC/Playstation)

One of the literal dozens of cyberpunk games coming out as the genre sees a resurgence, Anno: Mutationem has a few things which might just make it stand out as one of the games to watch in 2021.

Switching from 2.5d to 3d in this Narrative Action RPG, sidescrolling combat and 3D exploration will mean a much more directed experience than other Cyberpunk games coming out.

14. Gotham Knights (PC/Playstation/Xbox)

It’s not another Rocksteady Arkham game, as I keep repeating in the hopes people will listen. Alter your expectations.

Personally, a co-op action game where I can be one of the various bat family members sounds like fun! Even if it won’t necessarily have the stealthy depths of the Arkham games.

15. Halo Infinite (Xbox/PC)

One of the other big delays from 2020, Halo Infinite is getting a full graphical (and maybe more) overhaul ahead of an Autumn release in 2021.

A diversion in many ways from the previous entries in the series, a focus on an open world and ongoing free to play multiplayer means Halo Infinite is going to be at the heart of Xbox’s game strategy. Especially with Gamepass.
