PUBG Review: It shouldn’t be this good.

December 21, 2017 Conor 0

PUBG as a game shouldn’t work. It’s a multiplayer only game that requires around 100 players for a match. It looks bland as white rice. There’s fundamentally no narrative, no story. To start a game is to commit to a single 30 minute time sink where 99 players are going to lose. This game should have empty servers, critical panning and a bunch of postmortems to dissect exactly how bad of an idea it is.   Yet it’s easily one of the most engrossing games I’ve played in a long time. Somehow PUBG is a highly compelling game that’s sucked up most of my year.

The Last Jedi Title

The Last Jedi: Fun, Flawed, but looking to the Future.

December 17, 2017 Conor 0

The Last Jedi is worth your time. Not just as a good Star Wars film, but as a fun, beautifully made adventure that sets the stage for the series to come. It has flaws, but the sum of the many parts is worth the whole experience.

Shadow of War Title

Shadow Of War Review : Denser than the Silmarillion

November 12, 2017 Conor 0

Shadow of War is a game that demands the player’s attention. It is brash and loud, hurrying the player along a path of constant engagement  Not a moment goes by without a prompt or an icon or a mission or an encounter with enemies. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, I’ve had a great deal of fun playing, but it is utterly exhausting.

Tacoma Review Title

Tacoma Review

August 8, 2017 Conor 0

Tacoma is a story you know, in a place you don’t. The characters are familiar and real, but the setting is literally otherworldly. It is the story of ordinary people in an extraordinary situation. Tacoma is a first person interactive drama from Fullbright. You play as corporate worker named Amyitjyoti  (Amy) Ferrier. You’ve been sent to gather the Onboard Management AI from the abandoned Tacoma Space station. You’ve been hired to go and gather all the recordings of the crew, to find out what happened to cause the station to stop functioning a few days ago.

Netflix Castlevania Review

Castlevania Review

July 12, 2017 Conor 0

Castlevania is a game series based around the troubles of the Belmont family, as they tackle the monsters sent by Dracula to torment the people. The animated series brought to us from Netflix and written by Warren Ellis has been adapted from that core concept. With only four episodes, Castlevania is more of a proof of concept than anything else. Saying that, It’s compelling, hideous and leaves you wanting more.

Spiderman Homecoming Review

Spiderman Homecoming Review

July 6, 2017 Conor 0

It’s impossible to divorce Spiderman Homecoming from the circumstances of its creation. After Sam Raimi’s Spiderman 1&2 were excellent, 3 was merely okay and then the miserable Amazing Spiderman 1+2 came on to the scene, it was hard to deal with the fact that the world’s most popular superhero wasn’t going to be good on the silver screen again. Then, Sony and Marvel managed to come together just before Captain America: Civil War to bring the webslinger back to our screens as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, we get a Co-production, where Sony and Marvel have combined efforts to get Peter Parker back to come “home” with Marvel. The strain on the production to get everything under one umbrella shows. Spiderman Homecoming. It’s a little rushed, slightly scrappy, but it’s a good Spiderman film nonetheless.

Tokyo 42 Title

Tokyo 42 Review: Hyper Stylised Hitman

May 31, 2017 Conor 0

Tokyo 42 is a stunningly realised depiction of a neon Pan-Asian future city. It’s also a great indie game built around clever camera controls and some really good shooting gameplay. Plus an excellently flappy coat.
