Game of The Year 2021 was a massive challenge to decide. Especially because 2021 continued 2020’s trend of the biggest budget publishers struggling to adapt to the difficulties of pandemic. But even against that there were hundreds of releases across all genres and scales. More games than anyone could reasonably play. But of those that did come out, and those I got to play, here’s the top ten.
2020 was not a great year for massive AAA games. Numerous delays and problems with the largest scale games marred many releases. But Indie Developers, small scale experiments and long running games concluding meant the competition for Game of the Year 2020 is filled with quality.
2016 was… not ideal. But there was plenty of good stuff to enjoy and maybe distract. Might as well celebrate them. So, top ten games, plus a few honourable mentions. Here we go:
