2016 was… not ideal. But there was plenty of good stuff to enjoy and maybe distract. Might as well celebrate them. So, top ten games, plus a few honourable mentions. Here we go:
As the year of events marking the 20th anniversary of Pokemon comes to a close, it only seems logical to look to the future of the franchise. If Pokemon Sun & Moon are the future, then this series is heading in a very positive direction. Maybe you haven’t played a Pokemon game other than Go for a long time, these are the games for you. Even if you were already a fan, then these are the mechanically and narratively the best the series has had to offer in a while.
Nintendo seem to have learned their lesson from the announcement of the WiiU. Where that announcement was a bloated, feature filled exercise in justifying its own existence, and the Console suffered from a confusing brand name that didn’t help. The Switch looks different. The Switch is Different.
Not content with the twelve mythical Pokemon being distributed throughout the year, to coincide with the release of the new feature length movie, Volcanion is being released for the main games series as well.
Well, Pokemon Sun and Moon for Nintendo 3DS seem to be growing even more interesting as time goes on. The latest trailer has a whole host of potentially innovative and fascinating announcements, with many suggesting that this game will be the most heavily story focussed Pokemon Game in a while. Plus, the return of a fan favourite feature!
Pokémon Sun and Moon kick things off, with new announcements including the reveal of Alolan Rattatta (Dark/Normal), who have adapted to avoid being hunted by Yungoos. So actual natural selection in a Pokémon game.
